Prop Assortment
In addition to the books we needed to fill the scene with a
range of miscellaneous art supplies. I had already modelled a large quantity of
these, but since I would be using a texture atlas again, we opted to choose a
select few that could be easily placed around the room. Since I modelled many
assets as only high poly previously for the pile, because they’d be brought to
lower poly when in decimation master, I needed to create a few more low polys.
When done I was able to move onto UVs which was a pretty basic process although
time consuming because I was working with quite a few assets. I also had to
take into consideration where the texture seams would be, so that I could cut
off certain textures where I wished a different one to begin.

Creating the texture atlas was pretty easy, as I already had
most of the materials and decals made back when I was creating the piles. I was
able to package all of the ones that I required successfully onto a 1k texture.
When I applied this to the models in Maya. I further developed these in
Substance, in which I added some additional details to the objects, and more logo/decals
to the spray can.
After this I received some feedback from the group. I had
originally used 2 colours to decorate the selection of paint jars I had, and
one for the spray can. I was now told to change these colours to white and to
mask them out aswell as the decals on them. I also had to add a different label
that would wrap around the paint jars instead of a logo sticker. I was able to
create a new one pretty quickly in photoshop and apply it. I then began masking
out these now white areas excluding areas such as the details of the spray can,
which had white strips running along the object. I had to do this individually
for the first and second jar variant aswell as the spray can. I then plugged
them into the RGB channels and exported as a Targa. This could then be passed
onto the group member who was currently set dressing. It would allow for them
to create different instances of these materials for the jars and spray can, changing
the values of the white areas to make any colour they wished, instead of the
limited 3 colours I had originally made.
